Breast Reduction for Males

What is Breast Reduction for Males?

Men, just like women, can experience abnormal growth of glandular breast tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia. Gynecomastia may result from hormonal changes, heredity, disease, or the use of certain drugs; and it can present unilaterally (one breast) or bilaterally (both breasts). It’s often very troubling for men who may go to great lengths to disguise their chests’ appearance. Dr Farhang Khoee uses a variety of techniques including surgical removal of the excess breast tissue or liposuction, depending on ratio of glandular versus fat tissue present. In a private consultation, you’ll discuss the best surgical option for you.

Who is the Ideal Candidate?

An ideal candidate is a person in good health and requesting a male breast reduction for the following reasons:

  • Feels embarrassed about the appearance of their chest
  • To reduce excess amounts of breast tissue or chest skin
  • Exhibits sagging breast tissue or nipples
  • To achieve symmetry of the breasts (they appear to be different sizes)

What is the Recovery Time?

In general, the recovery time following a male breast reduction procedure is approximately 3 to 6 weeks. Most people are ready to return to work and light activities just 1 to 2 weeks after surgery, but you will need to avoid strenuous activity for up to 6 weeks. Dr Farhang Khoee will help you through your post-operative recovery period.
